Honor & Thank Infusion Nurses on National IV Nurse Day, Jan. 25th

Now’s the Time to Acknowledge & Celebrate Infusion Nurses

National IV Nurse Day - Celebrate Infusion Nurses

Infusion nurses work hard to treat several patients and conditions, both at LUX Infusion and at clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare settings across the nation.

Recognizing their relentless dedication, National IV Nurse Day has been established to celebrate these healthcare professionals for their essential role and the matchless care they provide.

At LUX Infusion, we are honored to be home to such an experienced team of infusion nurses, and we are incredibly proud to applaud, support, and advance their work on National IV Nurse Day — and every day of the year!

Background on National IV Nurse Day

Created in the early 1980s by the U.S. House of Representatives, National IV Nurse Day (NIND) has been going strong for more than four decades, highlighting the efforts, education, advocacy, and achievements of IV and infusion nurses.

In fact, from technical knowledge and skills to staying up to date with the latest medications, putting patients at ease, overseeing medical IV treatments, and beyond, infusion nurses manage a lot while pushing new boundaries to drive the infusion specialty forward.

Since the early years of NIND, several highly respected organizations have announced their ongoing support for this commemorative day, including the nonprofit Infusion Nurses Society (INS), which has backed efforts to spotlight the day, honor infusion nurses, and bring more attention to all of the vital care they provide.

In particular, INS has focused on “bringing innovative resources and learning opportunities to the wide range of health care professionals involved in the specialty practice of infusion therapy.”

What Do Infusion Nurses Do?

What Infusion Nurses Do - Medical Infusion Nurses

Infusion nurses are typically at the forefront of patient care in outpatient infusion clinics like LUX Infusion.

Specifically, that means that infusion nurses handle key aspects of care and the overall patient experience, including (but not limited to):

  • Administering an array of medications via an intravenous (IV) line

  • Setting up, adjusting, and monitoring various equipment

  • Assessing and attending to patients during their medical infusion treatment, overseeing any necessary changes to their medications

  • Developing short- and long-term care plans, working with other health care providers to create and refine treatments for various conditions

  • Comforting patients before, during, and after their medical infusion treatment sessions with real compassion and empathy

For patients with chronic or incurable conditions, infusion nurses can become a central part of their treatment teams, delivering intensive care week after week, as well as year after year.

  • Send a “Thank You” card or email (it doesn’t have to be a work of art; even a few sentences can be a meaningful way to express your appreciation).

  • Leave positive reviews, comments, or feedback on Google My Business, Facebook, or Instagram

  • If you know anyone who needs medical infusion treatments or IV therapies, share your experience with them, so they can make a more informed choice about their next infusion nurse.
